Statistics Show An Increase In Female Entrepreneurs
North Wales based Chartered Accountants Gareth Hughes and Co are encouraging local women to think about starting up their own business after statistics released by the government equalities office show that the majority of female entrepreneurs are able to work more flexibly from a self-employed status. 75% of surveyed women agreed that work-family-life balance is improved when you run your own business.
The government pledged to help women into business, after the Budget in March included a £12.5 million fund allocated especially for helping business start-ups by women. Currently only 13% of the UK’s businesses are run by women - or 585,000 of the 4.5million enterprises in this country.
Female entrepreneurship is on the rise however, with the government reporting a 17% increase in the number of women that are self employed since 2000. To encourage the rise further, ‘Women’s Business Centres’ were proposed to provide advice on different aspects of start-up such as pitching for bank loans and preparing business plans.
Gareth Hughes comments: “New mothers are particularly encouraged to consider the move to being self-employed, with flexibility an important factor in both business and motherhood. The gender divide in business-start up is slowly beginning to shift, with an increase in female entrepreneurship, which is likely to herald an increase in business overall.”
