Don't Panic About Time Running Out For Paper Returns
North Wales based Chartered Accountants Gareth Hughes and Co are advising individuals not to panic in the face of warnings that there are only a few weeks to go to file paper tax returns. This year is the first year that the new deadline of 31st October is in force for the filing of paper returns only.
Previously, individuals have had until 31st January to get their returns filed, whether this was done online or using the traditional paper method. HMRC will fine those who haven’t filed their paper returns on time £100.
The 31st January deadline will still remain for online returns, and even individuals that usually file paper returns can register for online filing, to ensure they still have the full twelve months since their last return.
Gareth Hughes comments: “The advertising campaigns that accompany changes like this one can really alarm people, who suddenly find themselves facing a fine for doing nothing other than what they have always done. We would like to tell all of our clients not to worry. We complete all of our filing online, and so can ensure that the deadline for tax returns is still 31st January.
